As promised; I give you a blog. The exclusive aim of this blog is to provide a different point of view to popular opinion. The global market place -that is the internet- has given everyone a voice. It is hard to be heard in this cacophony, but I will do my best. I intent to use reason more often than humor, but I am no stranger to sarcasm.
I don't write for me, I write for my readers. If nobody reads what I write, I won't write. Contrary to the 'livejournal' I kept before, this Blogger thing allows me to see my reader statistics. This should keep me motivated.
I will address little issues as well as big issues. Science, religion, food; whatever interests or annoys me. Most of what I see on the internet is misinformation. Lies wrapped in half-truths. The more spectacular the issue, the greater the number of fools that declare their position and their outrage. The truth, which usually lies in the middle, is there. For everyone to find who knows how to use Google, but most people are inherently lazy and rather declare their outrage and vent their prejudice than think.
I do think. It's what I do most of the time. I don't think I'm wiser than everybody else, or smarter. I don't think my opinion has more value. My aim is not to tell you what to think, but to show you that there is an alternative to what everybody else thinks. That you don't have to follow the masses. That you can form your own opinion. My aim is to encourage global thinking. There is no absolute truth. Most truths you hear are very small and entirely relative. Therefore, I won't take sides. What I write and say is not necessarily my opinion. It is an opinion. A possibility. There are others, one no less valuable than another, all should be considered.
Sometimes what I write will merely be an exercise in debate. Can this or that opinion be defended? Is it valid? Only an open debate can determine the validity of an opinion. I'm often willing to take an extreme point of view, just to determine its validity and not because I believe in it.
So yes, I will provoke you from time to time. Don't take it personal; I'm merely instigating a debate. If you have a different opinion, provide me with your point of view. Prove to me your opinion is valid. I change my mind all the time and I have been known to hold as many as seven opinions simultaneously. Don't be afraid to have your point of view challenged. Don't be afraid of a different opinion. Don't be afraid to think and don't be afraid to change your opinion.
The world is not a static place divided in two camps. There are no 'good guys' or 'bad guys', just differences in opinion.
